You have two assignments to work on today.

1. 8-4 challenge problem- Notice you have 2 sources of income and a net loss

• Page 173 in your workbook
• Page 194 in your text book

2 .Chapter 8 home work packet due Wednesday.

We will be looking at your chosen companies financial statements on Tuesday

Please complete the 5-4 I think, I left Tammy 5-1 ap that is not right. It would be the last application problem dealing with corrections. 

After the AP you can start the Chapter 5 Mastery problem. Remember to rule the journal at the end of each page to assure you are in balance.

Continue to work on Chapter 5 MP. We will finish this up on Wednesday in class.

Directions for Monday 4/7/08

We will need to go over 21-2AP and 21-3AP in class on Tuesday together. There is something dealing with deprecation I forgot to cover but you should have caught it as well.

So today you will be reading an article from the the Wall Street Journals at the back of the room.

Read "Where There's Smoke" page 12 and answer the following questions on your blog.

Overview: Smoking rates are declining in the U.S. and Canada, but they're increasing in developing countries, including India, China, and Russia. Tobacco companies are stepping up their cigarette ads in these countries, while public health officials worry about the increase in smoking-related deaths.

Questions

1. Why is an improving economy positively correlated with smoking rates?

2. What challenges do public health officials face as smoking expands globally?

3. The article says companies are starting aggressive efforts to "push smoking in countries where there had been relatively little effort to discourage it." Is it ethical for companies to increase their smoking advertising in developing countries? Why or why not?

4. Would you take a great paying job as an accountant for a cigarette company? why or why not.

5. Research the history of cigarette advertising in the U.S. and comment at how the adds have changed over time. What types marketing was regulated by the government?(you could post some ad examples here)
